Information for patients.
Eighty percent of information about our surroundings and
learning skills right from birth is through our eyes.
Loss of an
eye leads to loss of depth perception and reduced peripheral vision. It doesn’t
end here; it deeply affects an individual’s psyche, which causes to lose once
self-confidence, in addition to career restrictions and inferiorly looked upon
by the society.
For the
purpose of the rehabilitation of one-eyed, there are various prosthetic
devices:
·
Prosthetic contact lens:
Dispensed in patients with corneal scar and minimal disfigurement
·
Prosthetic shell or ocular prosthesis:
Dispensed in patients with disfigured eyes or with anophthalmic socket*
(Anophthalmos - a condition where there is absence of eye either from
birth or following surgery)
