Blepharoplasty

Baggy lids affect many especially in the present age of stress and increasing work pressures. The constant worries and tensions create furrows and wrinkles on the face. The lids become loose and baggy and sag down. The upper lid may droop and cover the eyes which makes seeing the world especially when looking up. Reading may also be a problem especially as the lids feel heavy and cover most of the eyes.

The lower lid may also be affected and there may be fullness of the lower lid area. This creates a look of an aging face.

Blepharoplasty is the surgical removal and correction of this upper lid droop and bags under the lower lids. Surgery has excellent results and there are no scars of surgery. The incisions or cuts are made in an aesthetic and hidden fashion and yield beautiful outcomes. This may be accompanied by ptosis that is drooping of the upper lids. This is all a part of oculoplasty surgery .

Having operated many patients from around the world of different racial origins, I can safely say with lots of experience that this is one surgery which makes my patients very happy and me too.

Newer frontiers in oculoplasty and ptosis

Ptosis remains a problem for many. It robs one of his or her self esteem and results in the person worrying about their appearance all the time. The good news is that ptosis correction has become easier and simpler and obviously more successful.

The day care approach to ptosis surgery has made the results very predictable and comfortable for the patient. The patient is made to sit up at the end of surgery and the position of the upper lid is noted. Finalization of the lid height to look good and to match the other eye is performed and the patient is shown the correction achieved by clicking a photograph.

Oculoplasty surgery is advancing in leaps and bounds and more progress is expected in the years to come...

OCULOPLASTY

I am going to Amritsar today, for the Oculoplasty meeting there. The meeting will sure be interesting, there will be talks on ptosis, entropion, ectropion, blepharoplasty, thyroid eye disease, orbital decompression, orbital and lid tumors and many such topics.

I will be speaking on the relation between extraocular muscle disorders and oculoplastic surgery, Squint is tricky and may be associated with lid and orbital anomalies especially in conditions like craniosynostosis, Down syndrome and thyroid eye disease. Hence it is imperative that one carefully treats these conditions and takes care of both the aspects. With my experience and training in both aspects, I have been fascinated by the relation between the extraocular muscles and the lids and orbits. The talk will be useful to all I am sure. I am looking forward to the feedback from all the delegates....

OCULOPLASTY - PTOSIS

I am amazed at the number of patients that I see with ptosis in my clinic. Drooping of the lids seems to be a common problem - the causes are myriad from congenital to acquired. Acquired are due to old age or rarely due to trauma.
The results of surgery are very good. In combination with blepharoplasty the results are excellent. The surgery has both cosmetic and functional implications.
Overall this is a good surgery for improving the appearance and improving the confidence of a patient.. Write to us on call@axiseyeclinic.com for expert advice on this condition...

BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty is done to make the eyes look beautiful. The eyes are the essence of the face. With old age or due to other causes, the lids sometimes become lax and loose with overhanging skin and multiple creases. In these patients, a little nip and tuck of the lid will create a youthful appearance. In the upper lid the extra skin, muscle and fat is excised, while in the lower lid the fat is repositioned. There is no scar as in the upper lid the approach is through the lid crease and in the lower lid through the conjunctiva. Recovery is fast and there are no serious risks. The commonest problem which can occur is bruising which disappears in a few days. Visit www.axiseyeclinic.com for more information.
