SQUINT / STRABSIMUS

For a very long time it was considered that squint was not curable in adults, on the other hand it was considered a sign of good luck. Present day knowledge of medicine makes us realize that it is not so. While squint can be treated at any age, it is important to realize that the development of special eye functions like binocularity and stereopsis can occur only in early childhood.Hence earlier the better... Even the results will be better as the eyes can lock well post surgery.

Even in adults, squint can be treated very successfully. The cosmetic benefits of squint need to be highlighted. If you have squint, you realize that the person speaking to you always has problems making eye contact with you - a matter of embarassment for you and him. You are less likely to be selected for a job if you have crossed eyes. Squint surgery is an outpatient surgery, no special precautions are needed and some of my patients have had surgery in the afternoon and gone back to office in the evening. There is no need for prolonged follow up. The only precaution is no swimming for a month or so and of course one has to use eye drops. Treatment has a high success rate and this is gratifying both for the surgeon and for the patient. Visit my ebsite www.axiseyeclinic.com for more information.
